Greater Toledo Community Foundation's latest round of grants, totaling over $2.1 million, is transforming our community by supporting initiatives that impact nearly every aspect of life in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.
"These grants represent our commitment to strengthening our region's nonprofit sector and addressing critical community needs," explains Kate Sommerfeld, president and CEO of Greater Toledo Community Foundation. "We're particularly proud that this funding supports initiatives ranging from environmental conservation to healthcare access, youth development and social services."
Here's how these investments are building a better community for all of us:
The Sisters of St. Francis Fund led the distribution with $530,058 in grants focused on some of our most vulnerable neighbors, by helping prevent human trafficking, assist immigrants in building new lives and protect our environment. For example, Cherry Street Mission Ministries is now able to provide vocational training for immigrants, while Justice for Migrant Women is developing tomorrow's leaders through innovative programs.
Thanks to our Community Fund, the Toledo School for the Arts will create new community venue spaces, and Habitat for Humanity – Maumee Valley is revitalizing entire neighborhoods. These are the kinds of projects that make our region more vibrant and livable for everyone.
The Stranahan Supporting Organization is ensuring our community thrives by investing in everything from autism education to pre-K programs and clean waterways. Their $498,000 in grants includes vital support for the Autism Model School, HOPE Toledo Pre-K and Partners for Clean Streams.
We're also addressing critical needs through specialized funds:
- Supporting mental health services with $139,000 in targeted grants
- Investing $120,000 in elder care programs
- Helping build stronger neighborhoods with $75,000 in focused funding
- Supporting vital community partnerships with over $50,000 in strategic grants
These investments are creating real change in our community. They're helping children learn, families find stability, seniors age with dignity and our environment become healthier.
