After 18 months of listening — to nonprofits, donors, civic leaders, volunteers and community partners across northwest Ohio — the Greater Toledo Community Foundation is ready to act.

Our 2026–2028 Stronger Together Strategic Plan was shaped by more than 300 conversations with the people and organizations doing the real work of community change across our region. And now, with that plan in hand, we're building the team to bring it to life.

Welcoming Aly Sterling to Lead the Center for Nonprofit Excellence

With more than 20 years of experience in national nonprofit consulting and organizational development, we're thrilled to welcome Aly Sterling as the leader of our reimagined Center for Nonprofit Excellence.

The Center is being rebuilt from the ground up as a dedicated hub for nonprofit learning, connection and capacity building. A physical space is in development, and we're committed to making sure the programs and priorities reflect what local organizations actually need. That means we want to hear from you. If you're a nonprofit leader in northwest Ohio, your voice matters in shaping what the Center becomes.

Welcoming Matt Heyrman as Chief Impact Officer

We've also welcomed Matt Heyrman as our inaugural Chief Impact Officer. Matt comes to us from the Lucas County Economic Development Corporation, where he served as president and deputy county administrator, with a strong track record of building the kind of cross-sector partnerships that move regions forward.

In this role, Matt will lead our external relations, partnerships, grantmaking, and marketing and communications. He'll play a central role in steering our most ambitious community impact work — coordinated, long-term investments targeting the systemic challenges in our region.

Honoring Kim Cryan

After 28 years, our Chief Financial Officer Kim Cryan will retire in June. There are few people who have shaped this organization as profoundly as Kim. Her steady financial stewardship has been the backbone of everything we've been able to build.

"These leadership additions reflect the thoughtful, forward-looking commitment we're making as we move from planning to action," said Kate Sommerfeld, President & CEO of the Greater Toledo Community Foundation. "Aly and Matt bring exceptional talent and deep community roots to our team and we are positioned for even greater impact in the years ahead. We are also deeply grateful to Kim for her years of service and the lasting foundation she has built. We look forward to celebrating her remarkable career."

We're grateful to our community for helping us get here — and we're just getting started.
