Program Specialist – Empowering Future Leaders (Part-Time)

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Ohio (BBBSNWO) is seeking an engaging, dependable, and youth-focused Part-Time Program Specialist to support our expanding Empowering Future Leaders (EFL) In-School and After-School Programs.

Pay: $25.00–$30.00 per hour, depending on experience (DOE)
Position: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Schedule: Approximately 25–26 hours per week during active programming periods
Location: Toledo-area schools and community-based program sites
Potential for Full-Time Advancement: Yes, based on organizational needs, program growth, available funding, and demonstrated job performance

About the Position

The Program Specialist is responsible for delivering structured youth development and prevention programming to elementary, middle, and high school students participating in BBBSNWO’s Empowering Future Leaders programs.

Through interactive lessons, group activities, and hands-on experiences, the Program Specialist will help youth develop skills in four primary areas:

Leadership Development
Life Skills
Cultural Competence
Career Development

Programming also incorporates prevention education, mental wellness, healthy decision-making, resilience, and other protective factors that support positive youth development.

Regular Program Schedule

In-School Programming:
Tuesday–Thursday, 8:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.

After-School Programming:
Tuesday and Thursday, 4:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m.

Saturday Programming:
Second Saturday of each month, 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

Additional paid hours may be scheduled for lesson preparation, documentation, staff meetings, training, travel between program sites, and other program-support responsibilities.

Program operations and closures generally align with participating school calendars and school closures.

Primary Responsibilities

Facilitate EFL curriculum in assigned school and after-school settings.
Deliver engaging, structured, and age-appropriate lessons and activities.
Facilitate programming focused on leadership, life skills, cultural competence, career development, prevention, and positive youth development.
Create a safe, structured, culturally responsive, and engaging learning environment.
Maintain effective classroom and group-management practices.
Build positive professional relationships with students, educators, families, BBBSNWO staff, and community partners.
Maintain accurate attendance, participation, and program documentation.
Administer required surveys, assessments, and program evaluation tools.
Assist with collecting information needed to measure program outcomes and support grant and reporting requirements.
Communicate attendance, behavioral, safety, or participation concerns to appropriate BBBSNWO leadership.
Participate in required curriculum preparation, staff meetings, training, and professional development.
Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality when working with youth and families.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology, education, criminal justice, sociology, youth development, or a related field preferred.
Relevant combinations of education, professional experience, internships, or demonstrated experience may be considered.
Experience working with children or adolescents in schools, after-school programs, youth development, prevention, education, or related settings strongly preferred.
Experience facilitating classrooms, groups, workshops, or structured youth activities preferred.
Strong communication, presentation, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
Strong classroom and group-management skills.
Dependable, organized, professional, and comfortable working independently in school environments.
Ability to effectively engage youth from diverse backgrounds.

Additional Requirements

Candidates must have a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation to assigned program locations.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of required background screening and child abuse registry clearance. Candidates must not have founded child abuse or neglect findings.

Selected candidates must also be willing to complete required BBBSNWO training and professional development, which may include Youth Mental Health First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Prevention, Trauma-Informed Care, First Aid/CPR/AED, Classroom Management Strategies, Botvin LifeSkills Training, and other curriculum or funder-required training.

Opportunity for Growth

This position is initially part-time, with the potential to transition into a full-time Program Specialist position based on organizational needs, program expansion, available funding, and demonstrated job performance.

As BBBSNWO continues to expand its programming and partnerships, a future full-time position may include additional responsibilities in youth program delivery, prevention programming, community-based initiatives, and other areas of program support.
