The Valentine Theatre, which celebrated its 130th anniversary in 2025, is one of Toledo’s most historic and active performing arts venues. Our mission is to enrich the community through diverse performances, impactful partnerships, arts education, and experiences that connect audiences with the cultural heartbeat of our region. As we expand programming, donor engagement, and community presence, The Valentine seeks a dedicated Marketing Manager to elevate and unify the theatre’s brand, audience development, and communication strategy.
Position Summary
The Marketing Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating all marketing, communications, and public relations efforts for The Valentine Theatre. This role drives audience growth, enhances brand awareness, supports donor initiatives, and ensures consistent, compelling messaging across all platforms.
Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, the Marketing Manager collaborates closely with the Executive Director, Development, Box Office, Front of House, and community partners to amplify The Valentine’s presence and engagement across the region.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing Strategy & Brand Management
- Develop and execute a comprehensive annual marketing plan that supports organizational goals, including ticket sales, donor engagement, rentals, and community visibility.
- Uphold, refine, and expand The Valentine’s brand identity across all platforms and communications.
- Ensure consistent, high-quality design standards for all materials (print, digital, social, and environmental).
- Manage marketing calendars tied to season announcements, special events, donor programs, School Days, and community engagement.
Digital & Social Media Management
- Oversee strategy, scheduling, content creation, and analytics for the theatre’s social channels
- Manage website content updates, event pages, tickets links, and SEO best practices.
- Create engaging multimedia content to promote performances, community events, and donor initiatives.
- Collaborate with external social media consultants as needed, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Advertising & Promotions
- Plan, negotiate, and manage advertising buys (digital ads, print media, radio, TV, outdoor, email).
- Develop innovative promotional campaigns for season productions, rentals, and departmental initiatives.
- Coordinate cross-promotions with partner organizations
Email Marketing & Communications
- Create and manage email campaigns through Mailchimp (or designated platform), including newsletters, performance announcements, patron updates, and donor communications.
- Maintain segmented patron lists and analyze engagement metrics to improve outreach strategies.
- Draft press releases and media advisories; coordinate press interviews and media attendance.
Audience Development & Community Engagement
- Expand The Valentine’s audience reach through targeted campaign strategies and partnership building.
- Represent the theatre at community events, partner meetings, and press functions as needed.
- Support accessibility, diversity, and inclusion in marketing approaches and messaging.
Performance Analytics & Reporting
- Track key data metrics including ticket sales trends, ROI on marketing campaigns, audience demographics, and website/social media performance.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly marketing performance reports for the Director of Operations and Executive Director.
- Use data insights to inform future marketing decisions and budget allocations.
Event Support
- Attend and capture content at select performances, donor events, rentals, and community programs.
- Provide onsite marketing support during major events, season announcements, and press activities.
- Collaborate with Box Office, and Front of House to ensure cohesive patron experiences.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with the Director of Operations to develop long-term marketing and communication strategies.
- Coordinate with Box Office on ticketing details, audience segments, sales pacing, and Etix integrations.
- Support Development with marketing assets, donor event promotions, sponsorship decks, and impact messaging.
- Serve as marketing liaison to internal committees.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 2–4 years of experience in marketing, preferably in performing arts, nonprofit, or entertainment sectors.
- Experience with social media management, email marketing platforms, and content creation tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite preferred).
Skills & Competencies
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Proficiency in graphic design and basic video creation/editing.
- Knowledge of SEO & analytics tools
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate across departments and communicate effectively with diverse partners.
- Strong initiative, creativity, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with Etix or similar ticketing systems a plus.
