Position Summary
Fort Meigs Historic Site is seeking a creative and motivated Marketing Coordinator to help expand the site’s visibility, audience engagement, and fundraising efforts. This position plays a key role in promoting programs, events, and educational initiatives while supporting donor cultivation, educational outreach, membership growth, and sponsorship development. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who enjoys storytelling, community engagement, and helping connect people with local history.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing & Communications
•    Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote events, programs, and educational initiatives at Fort Meigs Historic Site.
•    Manage and assist with the site’s digital presence across multiple platforms, creating and distributing engaging content independently and in collaboration with staff while expanding the organization’s reach on underutilized channels.
•    Manage communications, including email, maintaining distribution lists, and drafting and distributing newsletters, announcements, and program updates.
•    Maintain and update the site’s website - writing, editing, and publishing content to ensure information remains current, accurate, and engaging.
•    Develop promotional materials, including flyers, brochures, and digital graphics, to support programs and events.
•    Coordinate media outreach, including drafting press releases, announcements, and other materials to promote events and initiatives.
•    Monitor and evaluate marketing performance, tracking audience engagement and campaign effectiveness to inform future outreach.


Development & Fundraising
•    Develop and support fundraising initiatives, including donor outreach, membership programs, and sponsorship opportunities.
•    Assist in planning and promoting fundraising events and campaigns that support the site’s mission and programming.
•    Maintain donor records and assist with donor communications and stewardship activities.
•    Provide support for grant applications and reporting as needed.

Community Engagement
•    Build and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national businesses, tourism organizations, schools, and community partners.
•    Represent the site at community events and outreach opportunities to increase awareness and visitation.
•    Develop and maintain partnerships and collaborative opportunities that expand audience reach and community support.

Administrative & Team Support
•    Collaborate with site staff to coordinate event promotion and visitor engagement efforts.
•    Maintain records and assist with reporting related to marketing and development activities.

Additional Duties
•    Provide occasional visitor and administrative support, including answering phones, directing inquiries, and assisting visitors when needed.
•    Perform other duties as assigned in support of site operations.


Qualifications
•    Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, nonprofit management, history, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
•    3–5 years of experience in communications, media, marketing, or related roles—preferably within nonprofit organizations 
•    Strong design sense and ability to deliver clean, brand-consistent writing, editing, and storytelling content with a sharp eye for detail.
•    Strong social media strategy and content development experience
•    Proficiency with Canva, WordPress, and major social media platforms
•    Ability to juggle competing priorities under deadlines
•    Must be collaborative, resourceful, and comfortable working directly with Executive Director, staff, board members, and volunteers
•    Experience with press outreach, earned media, or public relations is preferred
•    Familiarity with fundraising, donor relations, or nonprofit development a plus
•    Must be available to work the full-time schedule on-site at our location in Perrysburg, Ohio

Schedule and Compensation
Schedule: This position follows a Wednesday–Sunday schedule, aligning with the operating hours and public programming calendar at Fort Meigs Historic Site. Occasional evening hours, select holidays (such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, etc.), and paid overtime hours are required to support special events and seasonal programming, particularly during the site’s busiest months of April through October.

Salary: $40,000–$46,000 annually, commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for overtime.

Working Conditions
•    Work is performed primarily in an office environment and includes extended periods using a computer and standard office equipment.
•    The position also requires periodic outdoor work throughout the grounds of Fort Meigs Historic Site to support events, meetings, photography, and site activities. This may involve walking moderate distances across varied terrain, including grass, gravel, around loud noises such as musket and cannon fire, inside historic structures, and working in variable weather conditions.
•    The role may involve exposure to dust, dirt, mud, and other typical outdoor site conditions.
•    Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and move throughout the site as needed.
