Family Peer Resource Navigator

 Position Title:       Family Peer Resource Navigator

Supervision:         Associate Director

 

General Description:

The Family Peer Resource Navigator is expected to provide information on mental health and social services in Wood County and surrounding areas, to seek information on appropriate services, facilities and programming and to provide support, education and advocacy for families and individuals affected by mental illness.

 Essential Duties, Tasks, and Major Responsibilities:

·       Resource Navigation

o   Maintains, updates, and replenishes resource files

o   Maintains an inventory of NAMI Wood County related items at provider agencies, hospitals, medical offices, and other relevant organizations

·       Peer Program Support:

o   Seek and maintain certification in NAMI programs that meet the needs of the organization as applies to lived experience of the employee. This includes but is not limited to:

§  NAMI Family to Family

§  NAMI Basics

§  NAMI Peer to Peer

§  NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group

§  NAMI Family Support Group

§  NAMI Provider

§  Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP)

o   Coordinate, facilitate and promote NAMI programs

o   Complete reporting for all programs facilitated

o   Complete monthly reports for grant funding requirements

·       Family Support:

o   Support families navigating the mental health system by providing guidance, information and assistance in understanding available services and care options

o   Serve as main point of contact for family advocacy efforts in Wood County

o   Cultivate and maintain relationships with families throughout the community

o   Implement and maintain a referral process to connect families and their loved ones to appropriate mental health providers, programs and community resources

·       Other:

o   Attend NAMI board meetings, board committee meetings, and staff meetings

o   Represent NAMI Wood County in all dealings with other organizations, individuals, and the public

o   Other tasks not specified may be assigned as necessary

 Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to complete tasks in a timely and organized manner

·       Professional written and verbal communication skills

·       Ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds

·       Ability to work independently and as part of a team

 Qualifications:

  • Certified Family Peer Support Specialist or in the process of training*
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR*
  • Certified in Adult Mental Health First Aid and Question Persuade Refer Gatekeeper Trainings*
  • Reliable transportation
  • Previous work experience preferred, but not required

 *NAMI Wood County will assist with required certifications and training once employed.
