Women of Toledo is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) that educates, engages, and empowers women and youth to keep moving forward. Educating, Engaging, and Empowering to build sustainable solutions that improve quality of life, diversity, and economic empowerment in the communities where we live, work, play, and raise a family. We do this through four program areas: Economic Development Initiatives, Mentorship, Advocacy, and Community Engagement Initiatives.

About This Role

This is a 5–6 month contract engagement, with a clear path forward for the right fit: either a transition to a permanent Executive Director position, or, if a permanent hire is chosen through a broader search, direct support in transitioning that person into the role. We're looking for a leader who can step in, providing steady strategic direction, and help set the organization up for long-term success and growth , whether that continues with them at the helm or with someone new.

Role Overview

The Executive Director (ED) is the organization's highest-ranking executive, responsible for its overall strategic, operational, and financial health. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED oversees the strategic and operational efficiency of our programs and staff. The ideal candidate understands current social service trends, has experience building relationships with local community groups, and leads with clear communication and decisiveness.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Board and its committees to assess and address organizational needs
  • Plan, organize, and direct the organization's staff in operations, development, and program goals
  • Provide executive direction on program strategy, compliance, and quality assurance
  • Identify staffing needs, including areas for improvement and development, and maintain a strong work culture that attracts and retains talent while advancing the mission
  • Serve as the organization's main spokesperson and media liaison to build public awareness for the mission
  • Develop an actionable fundraising plan and manage organizational cash flow
  • Ensure compliance with all national and local regulations
  • Report organizational results to the Board of Directors
  • Lead annual budget reviews, monthly/quarterly reviews, and periodic forecast updates with management team
  • Approve major systems implementations related to cost and inventory control
  • Ensure funding relationships are robust enough to meet or exceed strategic goals
  • Build business plans to achieve goals set in collaboration with the Board
  • Meet annual fundraising goals in partnership with the management team and Board, securing support from foundations, corporations, individual donors, and government sources
  • Oversee external communications (website, marketing collateral, newsletters, social media ) and the organization's signature annual programs and events
  • Represent the organization publicly to build visibility, credibility, and strategic partnerships
  • Build and lead an effective team dedicated to the mission through strong programs, community engagement, and fundraising
  • Manage staff and clients whose experiences, cultures, and languages reflect the community served

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (Education, Gender Studies, Business Development, Nonprofit Management, or similar), or equivalent experience in community-based work
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in leadership, planning, and community outreach, including hands-on multi-faceted planning
  • At least 2 years of nonprofit experience working with diverse groups
  • Track record of building relationships with diverse stakeholders, staff, partners, and investors
  • Experience developing and managing budgets
  • Strong problem-solving, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills with a track record of results
  • Ability to stay calm and effective under pressure while managing multiple priorities

Compensation

This is a non-exempt contract position for a 5–6 month term. Compensation will be based on experience, starting at $65,000 per year at full-time hourly commitment of 40 hours per week.
