Thomas M. Wernert Center (TMWC), a peer support mental health recovery agency, is looking to fill an Activity Specialist position for Toledo/Lucas County area. Experienced Activity Specialist needed to plan, facilitate and participate in educational and culturally diverse activities and outings. Must pass pre-employment background and drug screening. This position is 40 hours per week, with occasional weekend or evening hours. Also includes medical, dental, vision, life, short term disability, employee assistance program, retirement (403B), and paid time off.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  •  ·         Co-facilitate support groups as assigned.
  • ·         Research, plan, facilitate and participate in educational and culturally diverse activities and outings
  • ·         Driving a 10 passenger Ford Transit van or Ford Connect for transporting members to outings, shopping, and for other tasks when required
  • Engage members in movement, rec room activities to promote engagement and belonging.
  • Document information regarding member participation in activities/outings/meetings
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all working areas
  • Maintain a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations
  • ·         Maintain inventory of programming supplies, order supplies and maintain budget
  • ·         Plan/organize and facilitate parties, major events and outings.

 Experience, Educational Qualifications and Abilities

  • Associate Degree in recreational or occupational therapy assisting, mental health technology, or related human services field is preferred. In lieu of an Associate’s Degree, experience researching, planning, and participating in activities and outings is required.
  • Certification as Ohio Peer Recovery Supporter in Mental Health (MH-PS) preferred
  • ·         Personal or lived experience with mental illness preferred
  • ·         Valid driver’s license
  • ·         Ability to drive a 10 passenger Ford Transit van preferred
  • ·         Ability to interact effectively with members, volunteers, community partners, and TMWC employees in a team environment and possess characteristics such as patience and tolerance, while demonstrating behaviors that reflect respect for all persons
  • ·         Ability to address crisis situations while remaining calm and objective
  • ·         Ability to work flexible hours – including Wednesdays 11:30am-8:00pm, Saturdays 8:30am-3:30pm and other flexible hours to accommodate outings.
