Why work at The Victory Center?  We are a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization that provides free programs and services to cancer patients, survivors and families. We have 3 locations throughout northwest Ohio. This is a chance to do deeply meaningful work!

General position summary:  The Program Director’s main responsibilities are to maintain and expand programs and services for both cancer patients and survivors at The Victory Center; promote programs and encourage attendance; and evaluate current programs, services, and therapists on a regular basis.  The program director is the main originator of new program development. They may facilitate programs appropriate with their background, either in an ongoing or as needed basis.  They register new participants and provide them a brief program orientation; act as a referral source for educational, financial or psychosocial needs; and offer crisis response for participants until further help can be arranged if needed. In addition, the Program Director oversees all of the contractual therapists and facilitators.

Specific Responsibilities and Duties:

  • I.                 Promote Current Programming
    • a.      Devise, write, and distribute programming newsletter and calendar
  • b.      Schedule monthly programs, both recurring and singular programs
  • c.      Develop, print and display individual program flyers for either program registration area or as hand-outs
  • d.      Promotion of programming to outside professionals and community referral sources
  • e.      Utilize email blasts and social media posts, as needed
  • II.                New Program Development
  • a.      Seek new ideas to expand programs
  • b.      Research implementation in terms of staff time, costs, fit with current offerings, ability to accommodate program in-house, scheduling issues, viability, etc.
  • c.      Plan, implement and evaluate new programs

     

  • III.              Program Facilitation
  • a.      May be the regular facilitator for a group with appropriate previous experience
  • b.      Co-facilitate groups when needed
  • c.      Cover for ill/absent facilitators (again with appropriate experience)
  • d.      Attend or host scheduled evening/weekend programs as needed
  • e.      Coordinate National Cancer Survivors’ Day Celebration and Therapist Appreciation Events each year
  • IV.              Register new participants with a Welcome Orientation
  • a.      Offer a minimum of two weekly appointment times
  • b.      Provide tours and register walk-ins when available
  • c.      Complete registration forms, explain programming, suggest suitable programs, write initial notes
  • d.      Help train, schedule and coordinate WO volunteers and schedule

  • V.               Referrals for participant needs outside of the scope of TVC
  • a.      Make initial screen at Welcome Orientation
  • b.      Take referrals from staff for identified participant needs
  • c.      Provide information to participants or complete referrals when necessary
  • d.      Keep information file on community resources
  •  
  • VI.              Therapist oversight
  • a.      Communicate with therapists regarding TVC policies and procedures
  • b.      Distribute educational information or coordinate continuing education for therapists
  • c.      Address therapist ideas or concerns
  • d.      Address participant concerns or complaints in regard to therapists
  • e.      Point of contact for therapists for schedule changes

  • VII.            Evaluate Programming
  • a.      Schedule regular evaluations for individual and group services, and support groups
  • b.      Make changes appropriate to feedback

 

Minimum qualifications for position: 

The Program Director must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, in an appropriate field such as nursing, social work, public health, or counseling with at least 2 years of work experience.  Looking for a compassionate person who is highly organized and motivated to help others. Excellent public speaking and community relations skills.  Ability to effectively manage time and respond to deadlines.  Experience working with cancer patients or those with significant illness preferred.  Group facilitation skills a plus. Some evening and weekend hours are required.
