Black Swamp Conservancy is a land trust dedicated to protecting natural areas and family farms to preserve the rural heritage, unique natural habitats, and lakes and streams of northwest Ohio. The Conservancy is seeking to hire a full-time Events & Education Coordinator to join its staff in protecting the region’s natural communities and family farms.

Founded in 1993, the organization permanently protects nearly 23,000 acres of woods, wetlands, and family farms in northwest Ohio. Job Description & Duties

Reporting to the Executive Director and in collaboration with the entire Conservancy team and its community partners, the Events & Education Coordinator (Coordinator) duties and responsibilities include:

Outreach and Event Planning:

  • Plan and coordinate experiential programming for adults, children, and families; like hikes, workshops, story walks, and the Conservancy’s Paddle & Groove concert series.
  • Partner with local experts to offer programing relevant to conservation in our region.
  • Plan and coordinate special programming opportunities for major donors and prospects, including the annual fundraiser, So Wild a Place.
  • Solicit donations and sponsorships for the annual fundraiser.
  • Prepare reports to the committees and board and participate in meetings as needed.

Educational Outreach – Learning Landscapes:

  • Advance Learning Landscapes, the Conservancy’s outdoor learning program, by developing and conducting educator workshops, one-on-one coaching, and student programming for educators. For more information, visit https://blackswamp.org/outdoor-learning-with-learning-landscapes/.
  • Apply for and manage grants for educational outreach programming and workshops.
  • Foster partnerships with local schools, homeschool groups, camps, and other organizations.
  • Evaluate and report program outcomes.

Volunteer Development:

  • Assist in development of the Conservancy’s volunteer program.
  • Recruit volunteers for stewardship work days, office help, events, and other needs.
  • Manage volunteers during work sessions.
  • Acknowledge and recognize volunteers.


Administrative Support:

  • Assist other staff as needed to promote the Conservancy’s mission and achieve objectives related to all programs and projects.

Required Talents

  • Willing and capable collaborator, adept at building and maintaining relationships and community partnerships.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Effective communicator and listener.
  • An ability to bring wonder, creativity, and imagination to Conservancy event planning and educational programming.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience planning and coordinating events.
  • Experience planning and furthering outdoor learning initiatives.
  • Possess a passion to further the Conservancy’s mission.
  • A dedicated team player with a sense of humor who also works well independently.
  • Available to work before and after normal business hours and on the weekends, as necessary.

Preferred Experience

  •  Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least two years non-profit experience, preferably with a land trust or similar conservation organization.

Compensation

Black Swamp Conservancy’s office is located on a protected property south of Perrysburg, Ohio, surrounded by woodlands and prairie. The Conservancy offers a competitive compensation package including health insurance and retirement match. Salary commensurate with experience.
