Title:  Director of Development                            Report to: Executive Director                    Location: Port Clinton OH

 

 Opportunity

 

The Director of Development is a full-time position responsible for developing and nurturing network contacts that can help the successful candidate, on behalf of FAC, raise capital, program and operational funds to support the Family Advocacy Center’s vision and mission.   

 

 Responsibilities

 

•     Plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate all FAC fundraising efforts to maximize potential for capital, endowment, program and operating support.

•     Create a strategic development plan that reflects the goals of the overarching FAC Strategic Plan. Create an annual plan and budget.

•     Identify, research, cultivate and solicit donors and prospects for capital, annual and planned gifts.

•     In coordination with the Executive Director, arrange/participate in visits with individuals, corporations, foundations and other external funding sources to explain the needs of the FAC and to solicit their financial and volunteer support.

•     Supervise the input of all gifts into the FAC database; create fundraising reports.

•     Coordinate acknowledgement letters and level of personalization.

•     Proactively analyze, support and evaluate annual fundraising efforts and research and recommend other special events as may be needed focused on bringing needed funding into the organization.

•     Research and explore grant opportunities for FAC and initiate drafting grant proposals where appropriate.

•     Actively promoting the agency within the community and increasing organizational exposure to all applicable stakeholders.

•     Attend board meetings to report on development initiatives as requested.

•     Adhere to the AFP Code of Ethical Principles and the Donor Bill of Rights.

•     Be the primary point of contact at the FAC for all initiatives focused on fundraising and donor development. 

•     Other job responsibilities may be added from time to time in support of the evolution of this position with the FAC.

 

       Skills and Experiences for Success

 

•     A minimum of an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. CFRE certification is a plus.

•     A minimum of 5 years of broad-based fundraising experience (annual fund, events, major gifts, planned gifts).

•     Experience supervising volunteers.

•     Excellent oral, written and presentation skills capable of effectively communicating at all levels of the FAC organization as well as with the entire spectrum of donors and community resources.

•     Computer proficiency with intermediate abilities using MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Intermediate level of proficiency with relational database software. Ability to use the Internet to research prospects and access fundraising data and subscription applications.

•     Ability to develop dependable metrics for use with the Board, Executive Director and outside monitoring organizations on the success of ongoing fundraising initiatives the costs of those efforts within our communities. 

•     Ability to travel, as needed.

•     Highly organized: able to effectively manage many tasks simultaneously.

•     Work with minimal supervision and use independent judgment based on the successful candidate’s work experiences in the business development space.
