About the Workshop

In today's digital world, cybersecurity is often misunderstood and seen as a barrier rather than a catalyst for nonprofit missions. This interactive, hands-on workshop demystifies cybersecurity and information security, empowering nonprofit leaders to safeguard their organizations without compromising their missions. Participants will receive practical, mission-specific guidance tailored to their unique challenges. Using the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework, participants will examine their organizations through a security lens, explore real-world threats, and gain practical, cost-free action steps to enhance data security. Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of mission-specific security strategies that prioritize both protection and service to their communities.

About the Speaker

Dr. Kelley Misata is a leading expert in nonprofit cybersecurity and Founder of Sightline Security. She is an expert in advocacy, policy discussion, and fundraising. Dr. Misata’s path to cybersecurity has not been a traditional one. She survived years of cyberstalking, reaching out to nonprofits for help and finding little. Though she holds a master’s degree in marketing, she earned a Ph.D. in Information Security from Purdue University, focusing her dissertation on cybersecurity preparedness of nonprofits working with victims of violence. Today, she is using her 15 years of business leadership and her unique perspective to change how nonprofits understand and address cybersecurity. Kelley serves as the Executive Director of The Open Information Security Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to building open-source security technologies.
