Giving USA is the nation’s longest-running, most comprehensive report on charitable giving, and we are pleased to host a free Giving USA 2025 briefing in Toledo with fellow sponsors Clark Schaefer Hackett, Aly Sterling Philanthropy and the Toledo Zoo and Aquarium.

This year’s presenter will be Michael Moody, a Professor of Philanthropic Studies at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. Dr. Moody will discuss the annual Giving USA research and what it says about trends in the philanthropic landscape. Building on his best-selling book, Generation Impact: How Next Gen Donors Are Revolutionizing Giving, he will also identify how the rising cohort of donors are driving these trends and offer best-practice recommendations for engaging them today and in the future.

Dr. Moody will discuss the recently released numbers from the annual Giving USA report, and what these say about current trends reshaping the philanthropic landscape. Building on his best-selling book, Generation Impact: How Next Gen Donors Are Revolutionizing Giving, he will identify how the rising cohort of donors are driving many of these trends, and will offer several best practice recommendations for better engaging these donors both today and in the future.

Michael Moody is Professor of Philanthropic Studies at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University, Indianapolis. Prior to this, he was the first holder of the Frey Foundation Chair for Family Philanthropy at the Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University. Trained as a cultural sociologist, with a Ph.D. from Princeton, Dr. Moody is co-author of the best-selling books Understanding Philanthropy: Its Meaning and Mission, The Philanthropy Reader, and Generation Impact: How Next Gen Donors Are Revolutionizing Giving. He is a frequent speaker and sought-after commentator on philanthropic trends whose work has been featured in the New York Times, Washington Post, Forbes, Chronicle of Philanthropy, Stanford Social Innovation Review and many others.
