AI & the Art of Fundraising: A Practical Guide to Smarter, Ethical Impact

In this session, you will learn to:
- Define what AI is in plain terms relevant to fundraising and nonprofit work.
- Identify practical, low-barrier ways to use AI in everyday tasks like donor communication, campaign planning and stewardship.
- Experiment with AI tools during live, hands-on activities to build confidence and skills.
- Evaluate ethical considerations and data privacy implications specific to fundraising and donor trust.
- Develop an action plan for integrating AI into your work with clear boundaries, best practices and human-centered guardrails.
Precision Philanthropy: Leveraging AI for Major & Planned Giving Mastery
1:15 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
In this advanced session, you’ll explore how AI can help major gift officers and legacy gift planners uncover hidden prospects, craft custom stewardship journeys and make data-driven decisions that move high-value donors from interest to investment. You will learn to:
- Leverage AI-powered segmentation to surface overlooked prospects and guide cultivation strategies.
- Use generative AI tools to enhance donor communications, proposal customization and stewardship materials in minutes.
- Assess and mitigate ethical risks such as data bias, AI hallucinations and over-reliance on automation in high-touch fundraising.
- Design an AI-enhanced donor journey map for major/planned gifts that maintains human nuance while increasing efficiency and precision.
Our Presenter

Cherian Koshy is a globally recognized philanthropy strategist and Vice President at Kindsight, where he helps mission-driven organizations thrive through AI and innovation. With over 25 years of experience, he holds CFRE and CAP® credentials and serves as Treasurer of the AFP global board. He founded NonprofitOS (now Engage) before it was acquired, led statewide service initiatives and led multimillion dollar organizations while being recognized for his service. Certified in behavioral science from Harvard and AI ethics from the London School of Economics, Cherian bridges organizational strategy, ethics and technology. He teaches at The Fund Raising School (Indiana University) and is authoring a forthcoming Wiley book on neuroscience and fundraising.
